Live online workshop
Fibres, fabrics and filaments
Scheduled for Tuesday 1st October 2024
An online workshop packed with information to increase your understanding of fabric and threads
We are lucky to live in a world of seemingly endless choices, not least in the range of fabrics and threads available to us as quilt-makers and garment creators. In this live online workshop Philippa shares the knowledge she has gained in an amazing 5 decades of stitch, to help you understand more about man-made and natural fibres and fabrics.
After viewing the workshop you will understand the characteristics of the main types of thread - including when and why you might choose them. You will also have a better understanding of different types of fabrics so that you can make more informed fabric choices for your quilts and garments.
Our aim is to see you achieve greater sewing success and increased enjoyment in developing all your textile projects.
How do I watch the workshop?
The Fibres, Fabrics and Filaments class is a live online workshop to be broadcast on 1st October 2024 at 7pm UK time (2pm EST, 11am PST).
The workshop can be watched online in your Dressmaking with Philippa library and a recording will be available straight away for those who are unable to watch live.
As with all our classes, once bought you can watch as often as you want, whenever you want. There is no time limit and you can come back and enjoy the classes again and again for as long as you wish.
If you like the workshop you have the option to sign up for further classes.
Members are eligible to join our exclusive and very active Facebook group. Here you'll find lots of questions, answers, pictures of members work and much much more.
Every month we host a live Q&A session where members get to tap into Philippa's expertise and ask for advice and help with their projects.
We hope to meet you online soon!
Who is Philippa Naylor?
Philippa is best known in the sewing world as a quilt maker and teacher, having won many international prizes for her quilts and being a sought after teacher.
But long before she started making quilts, Philippa worked as a clothing designer in the British clothing industry and then had a business creating bespoke evening wear and wedding dresses. In fact she credits the skills she learned making couture garments with her success as a quilter.
Having spent two years developing a popular series of on-line quilting classes, she has returned to her first love of garment making.
Working from her Yorkshire Studio, which she shares with sculptor husband Peter, Philippa has created a series of on-line garment making lessons with the goal of helping everyone make "beautifully crafted, well fitting, individual clothes that you will love to wear."
